Foundry playwrights Emily Acker, Emma Goidel, Mary Tuomanen, and Douglas Williams and Foundry mentor James Ijames announced the launch of a new playwright-driven short-term theater company today.
Orbiter 3, composed of playwrights Acker, Goidel, Tuomanen, Williams, and Ijames and artistic director Maura Krause, is a producing playwrights collective dedicated to accessible theater, artistic risk, and chasing the playwright’s vision. The collective will produce one play from each member and a sixth unknown playwright between 2015 and 2018. At the end of their three-year producing cycle, Orbiter 3 will release documentation of its activities and an archive of its six plays and transform into a resource for theatermakers.
On November 17th, Orbiter 3 will kick off with a launch party at Elixr Cafe in Center City featuring DJs, dancing, drinks, local food, and more. The group will announce its first production, and open its radical membership program. Membership is limited to 200 Orbiters and includes tickets to all 6 productions, invitations into the production development process, and members-only happenings at seriously low prices. The first 50 memberships will be sold for $20 each; the next 100, for $30 each; and the final 50, for $50 each.
