Second-year Foundry playwright Emily Acker was recently featured in Azuka Theatre’s Spotlight Series, a reading series designed to preview new plays to Azuka audiences. Azuka describes the Spotlight Series as “a first look at some of the most exciting new voices and stories in theatre.”
Emily’s play The Matter of Nadiyah Hassan tells the story of the only black, Muslim student at an all-girls Catholic high school. The play was presented in a staged reading on January 8th directed by Artistic Director Kevin Glaccum, and won the Agnes Nixon New Works Festival award in 2013.
